Fire/Burn/Heat/Hot Torture
Preplanned acts to burn a child by various methods is intentional torture. A burn injury is extremely painful can quickly become life threatening because of the risk of infection. Scarring is another possibility and creates many problems as the child's body grows. Deep scarring is not repairable by plastic surgery as is the loss of extremities. Children who are scarred on the outside face worse scarring on the inside.
- Acid thrown on child
- Bed set on fire while sleeping
- Branded with red hot object
- Building set on fire while child inside
- Burn clothes or evidence
- Burn genitals
- Burned with chemical
- Burned with cigarette
- Burned with electrical wire
- Burned with grease
- Car set on fire with child inside
- Child purposely exposed to injury to collect insurance money
- Diaper rash burn
- Diaper rash burns from lack of frequent fresh diapers
- Diaper rash that causes scarring
- Explosion
- Fireworks burns
- Fireworks, sparkler burns from lack of supervision
- Flames
- Flammables
Forced into hot water - Forced to burn others
- Forced to burn self
- Forced to set pet on fire
- Gas turned on near flame
- Gasoline thrown on child and match lit
- Hair set on fire
- Hand held over burning candle
- Hand placed in hot water for discipline
- Hand put into boiling water
- Hands placed on hot stove burners for punishment
- Home explodes when gas is turned on near flame
- Locked in room while fire set
- Motel room/house set on fire while child is sleeping
- Put in hot oven
- Put in scalding bath water
- Put on burning wood stove
- Rug or asphalt burns
- Set on hot burners on stove
- Shoved into fireplace
- Threats to burn (to instill fear)
- Threats to use fire (especially effective if previous threats have been followed with action)
- Witness to burning of pet (implants fear or terror, helplessness in a child)
- Witness to live animals set on fire (perhaps to teach a child to repress normal human emotions of revulsion or compassion)
A serious diaper rash may indicate neglect rather than an intentional injury however some children are targeted for particular abuse if one parent resents the birth of a child.
