Psychological Abuse

Psychological abuse is the method used to destroy a sense of well being, to instill fear or terror.  It is not conducive to building a confident, independent child.

Family Abuse:

  • Cruel putdowns
  • Name calling or labeling about things you can't change (physical imperfections)
  • Putdown of ability or intelligence
  • Relentless and repetitive teasing
  • Witness the abuse of mother or other loved one
  • Witness the abuse of pet
  • Happy meanness

Outside Family Abuse:

  • Neighbors put down parents

  • School children call family names

  • Labeling physical imperfections

  • Cruel words about family, poverty or intelligence

  • Ridicule, shame child
