Sexual Injuries in Children

Unexplained Injury

  • Bleeding from mouth, anus or vagina
  • External wounds indicating child has been bound at wrists or has been gagged
  • Infections that won't heal
  • Internal wounds
  • Physical ailments; complains of stomach pains
  • Swollen areas
  • Unexplained injuries or complaints
  • Ripped skin
  • Bite mark on breasts
  • Bite marks on neck - commonly referred to has hickeys
  • Bruising in multiple layers

Genital Injury Indicating Sexual Abuse

  • Boiling water poured over genital area to wash away sin
  • Intercourse which tears or rips skin
  • Irritated or reddened genitals
  • Child has difficultly walking
  • Pain or injury to the genital area or mouth
  • Sexual organ injuries
  • Sexual positions that cause injury
  • Tearing vagina or anus, mouth
  • Urinary infection or difficulty with urination
  • Vaginal or penile discharge
  • Bite marks on genitals
  • Genital mutilation

Mental Injuries

  • Screams or cries not to be left with certain person
  • Fear of bathroom, closet or dark enclosed space
  • May begin fearing bedroom
  • Fear of dark,
  • Fear of sleep, bedtime or naps
